During the past few years we have had exchange students from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Canada,  France,  Germany,  Hungary, Italy, Japan,  the Netherlands, Spain,  Switzerland and the USA. Short history

Teekkaritorvet wind band was founded by Oulu University tech students in 1970. Nowadays we have a delightfully multidisciplinary line-up of woodwind, brass, and percussion players from freshmen to PhDs. We are one of the interest societies functioning under OYY, the student union of the University of Oulu. Our impressive repertoire ranges from Finnish dance music to pop classics and march music to jazz. We also play funk, disco, rock, and racy swing. This makes us a popular entertainment number with 30-50 gigs every year. You might spot us at various public and private functions, such as university and student festivities, graduation parties, opening ceremonies, weddings, and anniversaries.

Teekkaritorvet is especially famous for our annual Wappu performances in Linnansaari and Rotuaari around May 1st. It is nearly impossible not to hear Teekkaritorvet play during Wappu celebrations. For us players it is often the busiest (and most fun) time of the year.

Anniversary Concert: Teekkaritorvet IS… 55 Years Old!

Welcome to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of Teekkaritorvet! To celebrate, we are hosting a concert that highlights the orchestra’s diverse repertoire, arranging and composing skills, and the joy of wind music. Following the concert theme Teekkaritorvet IS…, we will dive into the essence of Teekkaritorvet with some deep reflection — what exactly defines “swine tempo”, what does “poisoning” mean, and what on earth is the Torvi spirit?

The concert program is carefully curated from Teekkaritorvet’s current repertoire, including selections from recent history. Alongside the 40-member wind orchestra, this concert will also feature an electric band with singers.

Duration: approx. 2 hours including a short interval

Saalastinsali is located in the main building of the University of Oulu (Pentti Kaiteran katu 1). The university’s main entrance 2T will not be in use on concert day, so access will be via the south end of the building. There is an automatic door and a level floor in the lobby. Saalastinsali has accessible entry and a level floor. University parking areas are free to use during the concert (excluding PSOAS and SYL marked areas). The venue is also reachable by public transport.
